Being is light – but unbearable – because we are resisting being’s lightness. It is our resistance to being, to life, that creates tension.
What happens if we just move with life’s lightness? Then life stops being unbearable. Then we stop fighting reality and accept it for what it is.
What makes us fight reality is our idea of reality.
For example: a banker falls sick with cancer and puts her work aside to try to get better with chemotherapy and surgery and what not. In the process of reinventing herself, she rediscovers her passion for painting. One day, she decides to stop being a banker and follow her heart and paint. Her family, friends, colleagues think she’s crazy. She thinks she’s crazy. There’s a lot of resistance from everyone. But she takes a step into the direction of her painting dream. Then another step. And another step. It’s difficult at first. There are so many doubts. But she perseveres. And eventually, her lightness of being shines through and it’s not unbearable anymore.
What can we, in our own lives, let go of right now? How can we just flow through reality instead of fight against reality?
